A core part of the Mayo Clinic tradition has always been to serve as a source of reliable health information to the general public and a source of innovation and education in collaboration with the medical community. For more than a century, Mayo Clinic has been sharing the latest health news regarding diagnosis, treatment and research with our patients, families, visitors and medical colleagues. Starting in the early 1980s, however, Mayo began providing health information to a much broader audience through the Mayo Clinic Health Letter newsletter. The demand for such a product, one that extended Mayo’s expertise to this broader audience, was the impetus for what is now known as Mayo Clinic Health Solutions.
By the mid-1980s, Mayo began extending its expertise through several diversification efforts, including MMSI and Mayo Medical Ventures (MMV). MMSI developed a strong reputation with the benefits administration community, while Mayo Medical Ventures began publishing an array of health books and newsletters.
Soon, MMV expanded to involve technology commercialization, whereby inventions and patents derived from Mayo Clinic expertise could be delivered to the marketplace, as well as a line of products for population health management that organizations could provide to employees and members to help keep them healthy. MMSI expanded to include telephonic health and wellness programs, pharmacy benefit management services and disease management services.
By the late 1990s, both MMSI and MMV had expanded their offerings of products and services to reach millions of people worldwide. In 2006, MMSI and MMV came together under the Mayo Clinic Health Solutions banner. Today, the Mayo Clinic Health Solutions product and service offering is unmatched in depth and breadth. The solutions set is intended to meet the needs of a diverse health marketplace, from the corporate community and member organizations to the individual looking for answers to his or her specific health questions.
As a dedicated health organization, we create products and services based on the collective expertise of Mayo Clinic physicians and researchers, rather than purchasing our products or content from other sources.
